UNO Builds a Lasting Legacy Through Planned Giving

The impact that the University of New Orleans has on students and its community is immeasurable, in no small part thanks to generous alumni and supporters.

Giving back to the University is now easier than ever through the Planned Giving program. UNO can be included in an estate plan, a trust, a charitable gift annuity or life insurance policy.

Alumnus Skip Miller happily returned to volunteer in the UNO athletic department after a successful career in business. His gifts have helped finance a gym for basketball and a locker room for baseball. A gift for the future has been included in his estate plan.

“There is a lot of satisfaction in seeing the benefits of the actions you are taking now,” Skip said. “I get to talk to the athletes and coaches, and it’s inspiring to see their gratitude and vitality.”

UNO graduate Debbie Settoon received a scholarship while pursuing her undergraduate degree in civil engineering.

“Having a scholarship at UNO really turned my life around,” said Debbie, who has included UNO in her estate plan. “If I can help make that same kind of difference for students now, I want to do so, because I know education can be truly transformative for individuals as well as their own children and families.”

Dr. Fred Rodriguez credits faculty and staff for the support and preparedness he needed for a successful career in medicine.

“I truly felt indebted to UNO. The academic program prepared me for a career in medicine, but the support I received from the faculty and staff was just as important,” said Dr. Rodriguez, who, along with his wife, has made numerous financial contributions to UNO, including scholarship funding, and has provisions for additional donations upon their passing.
