Leave a Legacy for Future Generations of UNO Students
The Legacy Society has been established to recognize and encourage planned gifts to the University of New Orleans. Through planned giving, donors can ensure that their gift will create a lasting legacy for future generations.
"As a former faculty member at the University of New Orleans for 21 years, I grew to understand and appreciate the value of this institution to the New Orleans community. Thus, I chose to ensure its future success by including UNO in my estate planning, and encourage others to do the same." -Joan Gipe
If you are interested in leaving a legacy at UNO, or if you have already made a gift and would like to be recognized in our Legacy Society, please contact Eric Balukonis, Major Gifts & Planned Giving Officer, at 504-280-6159 or firstname.lastname@example.org. A charitable remainder trust provides you or other named individuals income each year for life or a period not exceeding 20 years from assets you give to the trust you create.
You fund this type of trust with cash or appreciated assets—and may qualify for a federal income tax charitable deduction when you itemize. You can also make additional gifts; each one also qualifies for a tax deduction. The trust pays you, each year, a variable amount based on a fixed percentage of the fair market value of the trust assets. When the trust terminates, the remaining principal goes to the University of New Orleans Foundation as a lump sum.
